Bladder is a pouch like organ in our urinary system which holds on the urine which comes from the kidneys through ureters, the tubes which joins the bladder and kidney. Bacteria cause the urinary tract infection or UTI amongst which the bladder infection is the most common type of infection. Causes of bladder infection

It may vary from person to person. Following are the common causes that spread the infection.

1)    Anatomical structure of the urinary tract in women
In women, the urethra- a short tube that carries urine out of the bladder, is short. Because of this the bacteria takes no time to reach to the bladder and it get infected.

2)    Bacteria
Secondly the urethra is quite near to vagina and rectum. These are the common places where bacteria live in abundant amount. Bladder infection cause due to improper hygiene of these areas.

3)    Enlarged prostate in men
In men the major cause is the enlarged prostate gland which leads to bladder infection. This enlarged prostate gland becomes an obstacle in urination and because of which urine does not get completely drains out of the bladder. Over a long period of time, bacteria start to grow in the bladder causing its infection. The other reason is to holding on urine for a longer time.

Risk Factors and Symptoms

There are factors that contribute to worsen the bladder infection. Amongst the women the risk factors are pregnancy, use of diaphragm and menopause. The other risk factors which are for both men and women include kidney stones, sexual intercourse with multiple partners, narrowed urethra, less intake of fluids etc. In elderly individuals the major risk factor is diabetes. Bladder infection is characterized by symptoms like pain or burning while urination, frequent or urgent need of urination, cloudy urine, pain in the penis, painful intercourse, vomiting, chills and fever.

As I said before, bladder infection should be treated completely and early as it can be fatal if the infection reaches to kidney. A mild bladder infection will get clear on its own but if the symptoms are getting worse than it is better to see a doctor. As it is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are the best medicines. Amongst antibiotics, Generic Principen is generally used to treat bladder infection. Chemically it is made up of Ampicillin. Generic Principen (Ampicillin) works by blocking multiplication of bacteria and prevent the cell wall formation in them and cures the infection. It is also use to treat infections of middle ear, sinuses and stomach and intestines.
