Bladder is a pouch like organ in our urinary system which holds on the urine which comes from the kidneys through ureters, the tubes which joins the bladder and kidney. Bacteria cause the urinary tract infection or UTI amongst which the bladder infection is the most common type of infection. Bladder infections are known as cystitis which means inflammation of the bladder. It is the most common type of infection in women and children of age 2 years and more. Bladder infection is more in women than men because the urethra short in women than men. It is important to know that it should be treated thoroughly otherwise there is a high risk of spreading of this infection to the kidneys which results in severe condition and even into death.
1) Anatomical structure of the urinary tract in women
In women, the urethra- a short tube that carries urine out of the bladder, is short. Because of this the bacteria takes no time to reach to the bladder and it get infected.
2) Bacteria
Secondly the urethra is quite near to vagina and rectum. These are the common places where bacteria live in abundant amount. Bladder infection cause due to improper hygiene of these areas.
3) Enlarged prostate in men
In men the major cause is the enlarged prostate gland which leads to bladder infection. This enlarged prostate gland becomes an obstacle in urination and because of which urine does not get completely drains out of the bladder. Over a long period of time, bacteria start to grow in the bladder causing its infection. The other reason is to holding on urine for a longer time.
