Causes of erectile DysfunctionErectile dysfunction may be a permanent lack of penile erection or it could be temporary. There may be several reasons behind this disorder to interrupt your intimate life. Because of this there is no universal treatment that will treat erectile dysfunction in all age groups. For example, in elder men, the causes will be old age, side effects of some drugs which are to be taken for various diseases in the older age or some psychological factors. Following are some common causes of erectile dysfunction
1) Physical disorders – Erectile dysfunction often has underlying physical causes and these are related with psychological factors. The physical disorders include cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, history of heart attack and heart diseases. Diabetes is one of the major causes of erectile dysfunction as it damages the blood vessels and nerves.
2) Neurological disorders – These can create problem in transportation of signals from the brain to the blood vessels in the penis. These neurological disorders that affect penile erection include Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries.
3) Surgery – Surgery of the colon, rectum, prostate gland, and bladder may damage the blood vessels and nerves that are involved in erectile process causing the problem.
4) Medicines – Some medicines may develop erectile dysfunction as their side effect. These medications involve anti-depressants, anticonvulsants, heart medicines, sleeping pills, weight loss pills, ulcer medications etc.
